GUIDELINES & CRITERIA FOR ASSESSMENT FOR A BURSARY

 

Bursary value

 The value of each Bursary is at the discretion of Trustees

 

Eligibility   

 Trustees give priority to candidates who:

 

• Are most likely to benefit from an award

 

• Could not otherwise afford to undertake the MA course

 

• Intend to stay in the Jewellery Quarter after graduation

 

• Are aged under 30 at 1st September in the year of entry to MA course

 

Full or part time candidates are eligible.

 

Application process   

• Written application to the Trust’s office by closing date*

 

• Recommendation from School of Jewellery

 

• Interview

 

Letter of application to Trustees to include

• Full name, date of birth and home address

 

• Address in Birmingham

 

• Details of education, qualifications and awards to date

 

• Employment history

 

• Briefly why you are applying for the MA course

 

• Your plans at the end of the course including any intention you may have   to remain in Birmingham and the Jewellery Quarter specifically

 

• Information about your chosen art / craft (include a photograph if possible) 

 

·        A financial forecast for the year(s) of the MA course, to include expected income (savings, part-time work, loans, overdrafts, bursaries, parental support) and expenditure (rent, food, travel, dependents, course fees & materials)

 

• Details of applications for other bursaries you have made

 

Condition of Award

The successful applicant is required to produce an article (jewellery or as appropriate) to be displayed at their final MA show to give recognition to the support of the Trust.
