Development Awards
Support for Young
People
William Dudley
Trust’s original deed set out three areas of charitable activities in Birmingham. The first
object and its priority were loans for young tradesmen starting up in
business. In 1997 the wording of
the trust deed were revised whilst
ensuring that the amended objects
were in the spirit of William
Dudley’s wishes, that of: promoting and training or the
establishment in life of young people in financial need.
Revising the objects enabled trustees to consider other ways of supporting young people and so a joint
venture with the Prince’s Trust
began in 1998, resulting in a loan scheme for young people setting up
jewellery, craft and creative businesses in the
Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham.
By 2009 the
Prince’s Trust had received £105,000 from William Dudley Trust enabling the
Prince’s Trust to award £271,750 to new businesses based in Birmingham.
Since 2009 William
Dudley Trust has provided support for the Prince’s Trust’s Development Awards
Programme.
